Check tripod head tension to avoid abrupt jumps in tilt or pan

With a foreground subject, watch out for more brightly illuminated background objects

Use close micing and manual volume level for interviews. Internal mics pic up lots of background noise.

In multipurpose room, consider taking audio off sound panel instead of from the room (just don't miss any unamplified instruments, like the organ?)

Ask the sound guys to keep the stage free of unneeded mics and music stands that might be obscuring the performers from the camera

for seated interviews

  • put the camera at the same height as the subject's head (not above, looking down)
  • make sure the background is not cluttered with mics, mic stands and music stands, and basketball court markings
  • occasionally zoom in and out slowly
